  • What age of children can be helped?

Children as young as 4 or 5 can be offered help and at this young age parental involvement is encouraged; young people up to the age of 18 or 19 can benefit from help.

  • What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is recognised as an effective form of therapy in helping people with problem behaviours which stem from unhelpful automatic thought processes.  CBT recognises that thoughts lead to feelings and feelings lead to behaviour.  Through CBT techniques, people can be helped to evaluate their thoughts and to modify them with support.

  • Does Cognitive Behaviour Therapy really work?

Many studies carried out have shown a significant positive effect of the therapy with many psychological difficulties and it is recommended by many leading health care professionals.

  • Will I have to travel or can my child be seen at home?

Sessions can take place at the client's home or at school; wherever is the most relaxed and convenient.

  • What are the fees, and what will I be charged for?

Fees are charged on an hourly basis in general but can be for less time if more appropriate for younger children. A small travel charge is added to the hourly rate if travel is necessary. All fees and charges are clearly outlined in advance and previous clients rate the value for money of this service as 'excellent'.

  • What feedback will I receive?

Communication with parents and carers is key to helping children and Paul ensures that regular discussions are included in session times. Further more detailed reports can be requested at a small charge.

  • What is the difference between an Assistant Educational Psychologist and a Chartered Educational Psychologist?

An assistant educational psychologist can offer interventions, support, advice and help in many areas but does not diagnose specific disorders.  A Chartered Educational Psychologist is qualified to practice independently and to diagnose developmental and educational disorders.  Paul has a close working relationship with Leah Burman (Consultant chartered Educational and child psychologist) and is able to refer clients on to her for further assistance.
